From Emily's Journal
"When I was a child, after a long and dreary 4 hour drive I couldn't wait to see these two iconic masses bobbing in the sea because when I did, I knew we had arrived on holiday! I still get that same wave of excitement now when I first see them on the road in to Pwllheli. St Tudwal's islands are a famous Abersoch landmark that seem to morph and homogenise into different shapes depending on where you are viewing them from on the Peninsula. The best way to see them up close is by boat, exploring the coves and small caves all the while being watched by beady eyed gulls resting on the rocks. From land, a moderate but picturesque climb from Machroes beach takes you up to the 'Wales Coast Path' which wraps all the way around the coastline. We always walk to an area of exposed rocks, weathered to a pale blue grey and marbled with seams of quartz and kaleidoscopic whirls of lichen. I like to sit there and watch the passing sea birds and sailing boats and look out to the hazy panorama of the Snowdonia mountains in distance. If we are lucky, the resident pod of dolphins come somersaulting and snorting through the waves after fresh mackerel."
